Description and Requirements

Courses:

  1. Lectures on American Studies
  2. Seminars on American Studies in the Department of English
  3. EFL courses (“Academic Reading II,” “Academic Writing II,” “Composition I,” etc.) in the College of Liberal Arts
  4. Seminars and thesis supervision in American Studies in the Graduate Program in English and Cultural Studies
Starting date: 1 April, 2027 Application requirements:
  1. Field of specialization: American Studies, especially contemporary American culture and society. The applicant is expected to have the capacity for discussing diverse topics of cultural history, including popular culture and visual media.
  2. PhD or an equivalent research record in the field of specialization
  3. A published paper or book written in English in the field of specialization
  4. A level of English sufficient to give lectures in English
  5. A level of Japanese sufficient to carry out work-related duties in Japanese
  6. An understanding of and commitment to the core mission and values of Tsuda University, and the ability to incorporate these ideas into educational and work practices
  7. A commitment to contributing to normal departmental duties such as committee and exam-related work

  1. CV in English (Teaching experience and courses you have taught should be included.)
  2. List of all publications and presentations (Please specify whether articles are peer reviewed.)
  3. Copies of three major publications in English or Japanese (including at least one publication in English). Abstracts in Japanese (around 800 characters) for each English publication and abstracts in English (around 500 words) for each Japanese publication should be included. *Please send the original or a copy by mail if you cannot submit it by the Google form.   4. Description of research plan (around 1,000 characters in Japanese)
  5. Your views on teaching American Studies and English in the College of Liberal Arts at Tsuda University (around 500 words in English)
  6. Copy of highest degree earned or transcript for this degree
Selection procedure: After a review of the submitted documents, shortlisted applicants will be asked to provide two references. Interviews (combined with a demonstration class) will be conducted to select the final candidate. Applicants will be notified of the results after the final candidate has been appointed.
