Critical Food Studies Caucus Award

Established in 2026 and named in honor of Sidney Mintz, a field-defining scholar who dedicated his career to establishing the study of food as a rigorous and vital scholarly endeavor, the Sidney Mintz Prize for Mentorship recognizes the sustained guidance necessary to support rising generations of scholars.

The Sidney Mintz Prize is awarded bi-anually to scholars who demonstrate a track record of excellence in cultivating intellectual community, fostering scholarly development, and maintaining meaningful relationships within the field of critical food studies.

Nominations are evaluated by a panel of referees from the Critical Food Studies Caucus. During the nomination period, nominators should submit the following materials for consideration:

  • A letter of nomination describing the nominee’s contributions to mentorship; and
  • Recommendations of no more than 500 words from at least two additional peers, students, or mentees responding to the following prompt:
    • “The Sidney Mintz Prize for Mentorship recognizes scholars who demonstrate sustained excellence in mentorship within the field of critical food studies. In what ways does this nominee exemplify this work?”
