Description and Requirements

Dedicated to the 130th Anniversary of the Birth of John Dos Passos

Akaki Tsereteli State University in Kutaisi, Georgia will host a two-day international biennial multidisciplinary conference on American studies. The conference is dedicated to the 130th anniversary of the birth of John Dos Passos, honoring his enduring literary legacy and critical contribution to modern American literature. It is organized by Prof. Vakhtang Amaglobeli Center for American Studies at ATSU, ATSU Foreign Affairs and Development Office and John Dos Passos Association of Georgia.

The conference will be held at ATSU (59 Tamar Mepe st., Kutaisi 4600, Georgia) on October 23-24, 2026.

Individual as well as fully-formed panel proposals are welcomed on any subject in American Studies. Proposals for individual papers should be 250 words maximum, including the paper title, the speaker’s name and academic affiliation (if applicable). To propose a panel, the panel chair should submit a 300-word abstract on the panel as a whole that includes the names, academic affiliations, and email addresses of all participants; the title of the panel as well as the titles of each individual contribution; and the name and affiliation of the panel chair. Panel proposals should also include a 250-word abstract for each constituent paper. Please note that panels should have a maximum of four speakers.

The event will be held on-site. 

Registration Fee: 50 Euro (including taxes). Registration fee includes: conference program, certificate of participation, coffee, refreshments during the coffee breaks. The Fee should be paid by wire transfer to the conference bank account.

All proposals should be sent to Prof. Irakli Tskhvediani at: irakli.tskhvediani1@atsu.edu.ge no later than the 20th of July, 2026. Accepted speakers will be notified no later than July 27, 2026.

Please note the following:

  • Conference working languages will be English and Georgian;
  • Time Limit for Keynote Speakers: 50 minutes;
  • Time Limit for Panelists: 15 minutes;
  • Time Limit for Discussions: 5 minutes;
  • Equipment for the projection of PowerPoint presentations will be available upon request.

The conference participants will be requested to submit their revised manuscripts within three months after the end of the conference. All submissions should be in English and will go through a double blind peer review process. Selected papers will be published as a journal.
