
Race, Indigeneity, and Scholar Support Committee Awards
The RISS Committee annually awards the Richard A. Yarborough Mentoring Award. This award honors scholars who demonstrate dedication to and excellence in mentoring, and was named after its inaugural recipient, Richard Yarborough. A professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, Dr. Yarborough is an American historian, literary critic, and co-editor of the Heath Anthology of American Literature series.

Submissions are currently closed, but will open later in 2026.
Nominations are considered “active” for three years, including the year of initial submission. Those submitting nominations are welcome to send updated or additional information every year during that time, to supplement the original nomination packet. Any supplements must be received by the deadline for submission of nominations of any given year.
Submitted materials should be representative, rather than exhaustive. Total materials submitted should not exceed 25 pages.
