The Department of History at the University at Buffalo (SUNY) invites applications for the Thomas B. Lockwood Chair in Latinx History. The appointment, to begin August 2022, will be made at the rank of associate or full professor. Salary and compensation will be competitive, commensurate with rank and achievement. A strong scholarly record and commitment to teaching and program building are expected. Ability to teach courses in Latinx history is necessary, though area of specialization within Latinx history is open.

The successful candidate will be a dedicated researcher and teacher eager to work with students in introductory surveys, upper-level undergraduate courses, and graduate seminars. Standard duties for academic-year (10-month) faculty at UB, an R1 University and AAU member institution, include maintaining a strong research program; teaching two courses per semester, including undergraduate courses and graduate seminars; mentoring graduate students, including advising Ph.D. dissertations; and providing service to the Department and University.

We seek a colleague whose teaching, research, and service have prepared them to contribute to the Department and University’s commitment to equity and the inclusion of diverse students and audiences in higher education. We are especially interested in a candidate with experience supporting and mentoring a diverse student body, including Latinx undergraduate and graduate students, who make up a growing and vibrant demographic at UB.
