The Comparative American Studies Department at Oberlin College invites applications for a part-time non-continuing faculty position in the College of Arts and Sciences. Appointment to this position will be for a term of two semesters, beginning Fall 2019, and will carry the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor.
The incumbent will teach a total of three courses (over 2 semesters) in the areas of race, gender, and/or sexuality in American culture, at the introductory and advanced levels. While discipline and area of specialization are open, the department strongly prefers candidates with interdisciplinary training in American Studies and teaching interests in migration, queer studies, and/or social movements. The department is also interested in applicants’ potential to contribute to community based/engaged learning.
Among the qualifications required for appointment is the Ph.D. degree (in hand or expected by the end of the first semester of academic year 2019-20). Candidates must demonstrate interest and potential excellence in undergraduate teaching. Successful teaching experience at the college level is desirable.
