The American Studies Department at Dickinson College is excited to welcome applications for a One Year Visiting Assistant Professor of American Studies, commencing July 1, 2024. We seek a dynamic and dedicated candidate with a Ph.D. (or ABD) in American Studies or related field, emphasizing African/African Diaspora cultural studies as their primary area of expertise and teaching interest. Ability to teach courses in film and media studies is required. We seek a scholar who may have a specialty in Caribbean and global Black diasporic cultural lives, both Atlantic and Pacific. Candidates with a focus on film and media studies, gender studies, material culture studies, and visual culture studies are particularly encouraged to apply.
Dickinson College is a highly selective four-year, independent liberal arts college with 2300 students. It is located 20 minutes west of Harrisburg and is a two-hour drive from Baltimore, Washington DC and Philadelphia.
This position entails teaching five courses throughout the year, including core courses in the American Studies curriculum and courses within the candidate's field of expertise.
