Hawai’i American Studies Association

The Hawai'i American Studies Association (HASA) is centered around the Department of American Studies at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa. While many members of HASA are faculty and students in the department, HASA also reaches out to interested scholars and students in other departments and universities on the island.

Reflecting Hawai'i’s unique geographical, political, and cultural location in the U.S./Pacific and the issues and debates that arise from it, the strength of HASA program is on American-Pacific-Asian connections as well as more general issues in American studies. For many years, HASA has sponsored an annual research conference where graduate students present scholarly papers and receive professional critiques. Periodic colloquia feature local and visiting scholars. HASA also hosts occasional social events to encourage and facilitate interactions among scholars in the field.
