Job Description: 

The Department of Black and Latino Studies in the Weissman School of Arts and Sciences at Baruch College, City University of New York invites applications for a full- time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning Fall 2023.


The Black and Latino Studies Department offers interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary courses that center the knowledge production and contributions by peoples from the African, Caribbean, and Latin American diasporas in the United States and globally.


Its goal is to provide students tools to theorize and engage solutions to social issues rooted in longstanding and persistent racial and social inequalities. It celebrates student-centered teaching and learning alongside active scholarly engagement.


Candidates should be equally committed to teaching and research excellence. We welcome applications from candidates engaged in high-quality scholarship and teaching in areas such as empire and colonialism, gender, sexuality, environmental justice, and comparative approaches to BIPOC cultures. In addition to scholarship and teaching, responsibilities will include participation in department, college, and university leadership. New faculty will have the opportunity to design new courses in the service of building a more robust program.

Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.

Applicants should have or anticipate a PhD by August 2023 in interdisciplinary fields including but not limited to Mexican American and Chicano/a/x Studies, Central American Diasporas Studies, Latinx, and/or Indigenous cultures and societies with intersecting critical interests in Borderlands, Chicana and Women of Color Feminist Theory, Queer Studies, migration and migrant rights activisms, Afro-indigenous Studies, Cultural Studies, Performance and Media Studies, Anthropology, Ethnography, Geography, Literature, Music, Religion, or History.
