The Department of Social Justice and Social Change at Hamline University is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor. A PhD in Sociology, Anthropology, or related social science field is required. Those with a PhD in African American Studies, Indigenous Studies, or Women’s & Gender Studies are particularly encouraged to apply. ABD applicants with an expected defense date by August 31st, 2023 will also be considered. The area of specialization is open, but the ideal candidate’s teaching and research will engage meaningfully with both empirical and normative questions of social justice. Tenure-track faculty typically teach six courses per academic year, with a one course reduction during the first year. Ideal candidates will be ready to teach courses in the major and related minors; as well as courses that satisfy Hamline general education requirements such as the University’s First Year Seminar.

Willingness to engage in and mentor students through research and internships;

The ability to teach a range of required courses, including our introductory course, Social Justice and Social Change, and elective course offerings in their areas of expertise;

Evidence of an active scholarship and research agenda;

The desire to meaningfully contribute to the college and university community.
