The American Studies program at Bridgewater State University (Bridgewater, MA) – in collaboration with the African American Studies program, the Women’s and Gender Studies program, and the Department of Political Science – invites all members and friends of the ASA to "The Squad: A Documentary Play on Women in Power," a Zoom event on Monday, October 19, 2020, 2pm.
The event focuses on the roles and experiences of women, particularly women of color, in the current U.S. political system. A 30-minute live excerpt of the play – which is created verbatim from speeches, interviews, and news sources from and about Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, and Rashida Tlaib – invites the audience to reflect on the multifaceted aspects of gender, race, power, and inequality in our public life, and will be followed by a talk-back with the playwright and director Lisa Rafferty. Free and open to the public.
For information and/or to receive the Zoom link to the event, please email to Dr. Simone Poliandri, Coordinator of the BSU American Studies program, at spoliandri@bridgew.edu.
